Memory Measurement Unit

What Does Computer Memory Mean?

Any material capable of temporarily or permanently storing information, no matter how big or small, is considered the memory of a computer. For example, memories with random access (RAM), a volatile memory utilized by the computer's operating system, temporarily stores data from a semiconductor.

  • There are two types of memory. For instance, volatile and non-volatile A volatile memory is a memory that is lost when a computer or other piece of hardware is turned off.
  • RAM is a type of volatile memory, so if your computer reboots while working on an application, you lose all of the unsaved data.

Memory Measurement Units for Computers

3. MegaBytes

Gigabytes, often commonly shortened as "gigs," are often utilized to gauge the size of storage devices. For instance, a typical DVD drive has a capacity of 4.7 GB. Terabytes are the unit of measurement for storage systems with a capacity of 1,000 GB or more.

5. TeraBytes

  • The petabyte (PB) unit of memory measurement comes after the terabyte (TB), equivalent to 1,000 GBs.
  • The symbol "TB" stands for a terabyte, which is equivalent to $10.12 or 1, 000, 000, 000, 000 bytes.
  • Terabytes and tebibytes are interchangeable since 1 TB is equivalent to one trillion bytes, and 1 024 GB ($2 40) contains exactly 1, 099, 511, 627, 776 bytes.

7. Exabyte

  • The Exabyte unit of measurement for memory is the same as 1,000 PBs it comes before the zettabyte.
