INTRODUCTION TO COMPILER

“A compiler is a software tool it converts high-level programming language source code into machine code.” This can be directly executed by a computer CPU. The process of translation performed by a compiler is called Compilation.

Programmer writes the code in a high-level language [C++, Java, or Python] is not directly executable by the computer. This code must be translated into machine code which is a low-level language made up of binary instructions.

The task of a compiler is to perform this translation automatically by analysing source code and creating machine code. Several phases are involved, including lexical analysis, parsing, semantic analysis code optimisation, and code generation. Machine code may be executed directly by the computer after compiling the code, making it far faster and more efficient than interpreted languages, which must be translated each time they are run.

ANALOGY

The role of compiler in programming is compared with a translator or interpreter between two persons who speak different languages.

Similar to how a translator takes a message written in one language and changes it into another language that the recipient can understand. computers execute machine code. Compiler takes source code written in a high-level programming language and converts it into machine code.

Compiler must grasp the syntax and semantics of the programming language to produce efficient and correct machine code like a translator understands the meaning and nuances of the original message.

When the translation is finished, the recipient will be able to interpret and act on the translated message. computer is able to execute the built machine code in the same way. A good compiler is like a well-trained translator, provides high-quality translations that are accurate, efficient, and easy to understand.

COMPILER IN C

  1. A C compiler is a piece of software, converts source code written in the C programming language into machine code. This can be executed by the CPU of a computer. In the 1970s C was created and it is a popular and widely used computer language
  2. There are numerous C compilers including open-source compilers {GCC and Clang} and commercial compilers as well such as Microsoft Visual C++.
  3. The compiler goes through various phases of processing to convert the source code to machine code when you build a C programme. These steps often comprise lexical analysis, parsing, semantic analysis, optimisation, and code production, as I previously stated.
